Ok, so even though all those Fashion Files on draping and knitting are mighty interesting… How about some on site leather action?! Our students from the Fashion Buying Concepts course went on a field trip to ‘La Scuola del Cuoio’ (The Leather School) with their professor Alessandra Ferroni.

The Scuola del Cuoio was created after World War II through the collaborative efforts of the Franciscan friars of the Monastery of Santa Croce and the Gori and Casini families, Florentine leather artisans since the 1930’s. Their mission was to give orphans of the war a means to learn a practical trade with which to earn a living.

During their field trip our students got to learn about all the ins and outs of the various techniques and materials involved in the leather production process. Below some pictures of this lovely experience!
