Handmade Techniques: Part II

Last week, Karl arrived with a huge tote bag…full of bags. As he placed each one on the table I could feel my anxiety level rise: this happens every time someone asks me to be creative. I envy the people who can immediately envision something incredible and confidently pursue their ideas. I, on the other hand, tend to look at a creative project and draw a complete blank due to mental overload. When you can do anything you want, how in the world are you supposed to choose? Luckily we had a very talkative group today and there was no shortage of ideas.

It was really cool to see the different paths people took to decorate their bags. We were all applying the same medium (paint) to identical bags, but in the end each one clearly belonged to somebody, it was no longer anonymous. No matter what direction each student took the project, we all ended up with really interesting bags that will serve as great souvenirs from our time abroad. I am so glad to have had this opportunity – as an added bonus I realized I’m not quite so incapable of being creative!
